  • Carlisle Colour Run
    All day
    2018-05-13

Vivid colours will brighten up Carlisle Racecourse again this year… Bigger, brighter and with added bubbles!… But will you be joining us?

On Sunday 13 May the hospice’s fourth annual 5km Colour Run will take place. The family friendly event will see thousands of fundraisers transforming themselves from a blank canvas into a rainbow of colour as they complete two laps of the track.

More than 1,300 people took part in the 2017 event raising almost £60,000 to help the care, support and activities provided at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. Since launching in 2015 the three previous Carlisle Colour Run events have raised and incredible £190,948.

The vibrant day of fundraising will see people transformed from a blank canvas into a rainbow of colour as they pass through the different paint stations where they will be showered in coloured powdered paint along with the return of the foam station.

There is no minimum sponsorship for the Colour Run, all the hospice asks it that you raise as much money as you can to help Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. Your registration fee covers all the costs involved in administrating your place as well as the providing you with a t-shirt, sunglasses, Colour Run paint, bubbles and your finishers prize.

  • Carlisle City Urban Trail Run 10K
    All day
    2018-05-16

Athletes will congregate in front of the magnificent East window of our stunning 12th Century Cathedral. Running from the cathedral round the cobbled Fisher Street you will pass the award winning Tullie House museums original Victorian entrance.
After passing Radio Cumbria studios and Tullie House’s modern rotunda entrance. You will reach the Caldew gate entrance through ancient city wall defence. Take a flight of steps up onto the Millennium Bridge. The bridge takes you over the controversial 1970s 4 lane highway that divided the city then, and the tourism chiefs now.
The steps off the bridge deliver you directly in front of the Norman Castle. A short run along the front of it at the ruined castle walls you will turn left slightly downhill then uphill to continue your Carlisle Castle tour. High above the park below, running to the far corner of Castle a sharp left awaits and a gentle drop back down toward Millennium Bridge to complete the Castle loop. Onto Devonshire Walk then left turn into the tree lined avenue leading to Sheepmount Sports Stadium.
When reaching the sheepmount go straight across the ring road and run along the river bank coming up the steps and under Eden Bridge carrying straight on past the Sands Centre and following the trail round to St Adians Road Bridge. Turn right after the bridge and follow the track to the right. You will then complete a well signed / marshalled circuit of Rickerby Park taking you back over St Adian Road Bridge. Retracing your steps back to the finish at the rear of The Sands Centre.

  • Windermere Marathon
    All day
    2018-05-20

2018 will be our 12th ASICS Windermere Marathon and we can’t wait…

Being situated in the Lake District this marathon is considered, by many, to be the “the most scenic in the UK”. The race follows an anti-clockwise route, taking runners through Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.

The race starts and finishes at Brathay Hall in Clappersgate, on the road outside of the Brathay estate. After running through the village, runners pass Graythwaite Hall, and Lakeside toward the Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge. After crossing the bridge, the race leads onto the A592 towards Bowness-on-Windermere. Participants continue in the same direction until they reach the junction with the A591, which they follow to Waterhead, Ambleside. At Ambleside runners reach the final stretch of the race turning towards Clappersgate and finally reaching the finish line back at Brathay Hall.

    …we’ll see you there!
